Poem: “This”


only this
is truly necessary.
An outdated wooden crucifix
in a forgotten sacristy corner,
my forehead pressed to the nail-pierced feet
reducing ten thousand things to one.
A simple act that clarifies.
Calling, inviting – I come.
This single act
making me

    “outdated” – but eternal and timeless. I so regret it has taken me so many decades to start to come to this message in your poem. Thank you. For one of my favorite images of where the Cross leads look at Dali’s CHRIST OF ST JOHN OF THE CROSS. It is Christ after he has died rising above the Cross and above the earth – Christ no longer suffering and bloody. Guy McClung
